In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

My media product use conventions of real media products in many ways. Ive developed conventions a lot in my front cover.
By having the main image over the title of the magazine makes us feel that they want the main story to catch your eye first and also that the story is bigger than the magazine.
The first thing was my barcode. I have chosen to position in the bottom left hand corner, by doing this it is not isn't wasting valuable space, and is lost on the page, the readers eye is drawn to other aspects before the barcode.

Like NME magazine I also have a Pug that stands out on the cover. By having a Pug iam using conventions which is typically of a music magazine.Though I feel my pug stands out a lot more by having it a different colour to my colour scheme while NME has adapted it to the colour scheme of red white and black.

For the title of the main article I have developed Conventions by using a Dymotape Banner for the writing. By doing this is draws attention to the article a lot more than what NME have done with just the red writing.

I have challenged the conventions of having all the fonts the same for the other and made them all different for the different stories. The reason I done this was the Bands and artists have all different types of font for there name so I thort that the readers would recognise the name by having it as there logo instead of having them all in the same witting.

I think this makes the Font cover a lot more interesting and also the content more recognisable.
Ive also challenged the fonts and writing by having some of the letters revered and also having the name of the magazine on a brick wall which looks like it has been spray painted on instead of just typed on. All theses things have made my magazine a lot more interesting to look at.

With the contents page I have made it a lot like NME and professional music magazine’s.
I’ve done this by having the boards are the Features, News and every week. By using these conventions readers can find the article they want quickly.
I have challenged conventions by not having an editorial. I feel that I can have a lot more content on the page and an Editorial is not as important as the page numbers, titles and also pictures.
I have developed conventions by having the supposes on a yellow tape at the bottom of the page, this is done in a lot of music magazine because as a contact you need to advertise your sponsors.

My double page spread is very much like the NME double page spread. This is shown by having the large image on the left hand side, writing next to the photo and also other images that go with the article.
I have not challenged any conventions because I wanted to make sure the most important part of the 3 pages looked like a music magazine.

I didn’t want to challenge a lot of conventions as this would be inappropriate for my target audience and they wouldn’t accept some of the challenges that I could have made.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

My music magazine is aimed at Flo who I used in my target audience evaluation earlier in my blog. To do this I've had to choose
colour schemes, artists, locations and selected relevant items and images to place in my magazine to suit this social group. I have included artists such as Calvin Harris and also made up my own Bands and artists as they appeal to my target audience.
I’ve chosen uni-sex colours so that both sex’s appeal to the magazine.

By having the main artists hand in the ‘Rock’ sign means that it will appeal to more indie/rock social groups rather than a social group who listens to rap.
This is also shown by having an image of a man with a Red Mohican with a studded necklace and a nose ring. All of theses things help show which social group my magazine is targeted to.

I have decide not to put disabled people into my magazine as I want to show my audience a sort of fantasy that they can loos themselves in and this is shown by the images. Also I feel that people wouldn’t buy the magazine as much because they wouldn’t fit into the genre of music or the social group they was looking for.
For the age concern I think that ive made more of an Older Teenager/Older audience. I wanted to reach out to an older audience because I feel that they would appreciate the content of the magazine more than a younger audience.

Though I’ve said a lot that I wanted my magazine to fit into a certain social group I have not made the magazine genre too strong and have also put in there things like ‘Man of the week’ and also news form other genre’s of music.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

IPC Media produces over 85 iconic media brands, with our print brands alone reaching almost two thirds of UK women and 44% of UK men – almost 27 million UK adults – while our online brands collectively reach 20 million users every month.IPC's diverse print and digital portfolio offers something for everyone, with a focus on three core audiences: men, mass market women and upmarket women. Our men's portfolio (IPC Inspire) comprises a wealth of leisure brands including Country Life, Horse & Hound, Rugby World and Decanter, as well as lifestyle brands including Nuts, Mousebreaker and NME.Our mass market women's division (IPC Connect) comprises famous women's weeklies including Look, Now, Chat and Woman; TV entertainment brands including What's on TV, TVTimes and TV & Satellite Week and, online, the goodtoknow network. Our upmarket women's division (IPC Southbank) comprises luxury fashion brands including Marie Claire and InStyle, lifestyle brands including woman&home and essentials and home interest brands including Ideal Home, Livingetc and housetohome.
NME has become a truly unique multi-platform media proposition. Across the magazine, nme.com, NMETV, NME Radio and the brand's live events and awards, NME reaches over one million music fans every week. NME is the longest published and most respected music weekly in the world. Every week it gives its readers the most exciting, most authoritative coverage of the very best in contemporary music, including award winning features, the latest releases, live reviews, the definitive guide to the best new bands in its Radar section, as well as a regular look back through the magazine's incredible 58 year heritage.

As IPC publish NME I think it would be a really good oppertuinity for CRUNK! To also be published by IPC. My magazine fits in with what there asking for and also there policties and wants.
Although they do already publish a number of music magazine because mine only focuses on the one genre i think they would be ideal as they have a large market and to have 22% of the market means my magazine could easily be distributed and sold.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

My target audience would be an age range from 26-25 that is similar to flo who is in my specific target audience is also shown in my blog.
They would listen to bands and artists such as Lady Gaga, Gym Class Heroes and also The Fray they would therefore be interested in the artists featured in my magazine.
This is my Target audience post on my blog. >>>>

How did you attract/address your audience?

To attract my audience i have used a range of colours, artists, language and images that would appeal to them.

With the colours I used the basic rock/indie colours: red, black and white. By doing this I have already caught some of my target audience’s attention because they are used to reading magzines, looking at images and wearing clothes which are associated with theses colours.

The language I used was quiet informal through out the magazine which also attracts my audience because if it was too formal my audience would not appreciate it. Being the write of the magazine and also the same age range -(16-25) as my audience made it a lot easier for me to write and also easier for the audience to relate to.

The artists that I have used are in the Top 40 so this would therefore attract them to buy my magazine as to keep up to date with the music world. By using theses names my audience will want to read about the either up coming chart hits or there current indie and rock idols.

The clothing I have used also relate to my audience by being individual and also again using the black, red and white theme. Also the people in my images have a lot of piercing and tattoos this also relates to my audience of indie rocker’s.

The headlines I have used are very catchy and informal, by doing this I have attracted my audience straight away as they would feel that by having informal language that the magazine is up to date with teenagers and younger adults.

Question6 What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

While designing and making my final Magazine cover, contents and double page spread I have learnt to use:
· Camera- I learnt how to take a close up. Mid-shot and other angels

· Photoshop- I learnt how to use a lot of tools and that without theses tools it would be impossible to create a good, finished and neat Magazine.

Theses included the sponge tool which helped me lighten the brick wall so that the writing would stand out more and was read able.

I also learnt how to crop our writing using the crop tool and also how to move the writing around and angel the lettering. By doing this it made the writing a lot more interesting to read and made the page look a lot more professional.

I was very interested in the Magnetic lasso tool which helped my lot with cutting out my photos. Without this I would not have been able to cut out my photos so precise and neat and not free hand.
If you didn’t like the magnetic Lasso tool you could also use the magic wand which also made cutting out photos a lot easier by clicking on a certain part of the photo and the wand picked a certain part of the photo to match the colours you wanted to delete I found this a lot easier than the Magnetic lasso tool.

With Mac Photoshop I found the best part was the layering. With this you could change things around so that something was behind an object or the other way around. Also by using the layers you could select objects a lot easier. Next to the layers there was and ‘Eye’ tool. If you clicked onto the eye next to a certain layer that layer would disappear, this layer could be writing or even a single image. By doing this you could see if you wanted the layer and if it was necessary without deleting it because as soon as you clicked that certain eye again it would re-appear.

·
Mac Computers
With the Mac Computers I learnt how to get Photoshop up and also how to print screen certain part which I needed and not just the whole screen. This made things a lot easier for me because I didn’t have to fiddle around with cropping parts out the print screen as I already s
elected the part that I wanted.

· Memory stick
With my memory stick I used it a lot to save my layers and without it I might have lost a lot of my work.

· Scanning
With the scanning I used it to scan in my photos and also drawings. If I just look a photo of my planned sketches for my front cover you would not have seen a lot of details because of the flash so this made my work a lot clearer.

· Blog
I learnt a lot about bloging and I think this is a really good way to show your work. As some people aren’t very creative or neat using a computer makes it a lot easier for people instead of having it printed into a folder or stuck down onto pieces of paper. I learnt how to upload photos and information onto the blog which made it look a lot more interesting and professional. I also learnt how to change the date of the New post so that it would fit into the space and time that it should have been in there. By doing this is made my blog a lot more ordered and you can also see the progression that I have made

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

As you can see my preliminary task that I done was defiantly not as good as my CRUNK! Music magazine. This was because this was my first time using iMac Photoshop and I didn’t know what tools done what and also how to use them.
I have learnt a lot through out my progression of making my magazine. I have learnt how to make the front cover look a lot more professional, how to add other images and I think you can see this through the images above.
I have also learnt how to make simple things like clothes in images to attract my target audience and also the colour scheme of the whole front page, content and double page spread.

Analyis Of My Poll.

From my feedback of my poll I have more of an understanding of what I can include in my music magazine.
From my answers I have an uneven amount of males and females who have voted; therefore my music magazine will be aimed at females because there was no men that voted. Even though ive aimed my music magazine at both genders and for it too be unisex, there is a certain feminine feel about the front cover and also the double page spread.
It is clear that the people that read my magazine don’t often break the bank on luxuries and spending under £50 per month. If we promote a cheap music magazine with good content it would be sure to fly off the shelf’s.
When it came to how much the audience would pay for the magazine half the vote said £2 and the other half said £2.50 so it wouldn’t make that much of a difference if I made it either one. The Reason people my choose not to buy magazine very often is maybe due to the price., so selling it at a reasonable price people would be more attracted to it.
I asked the audience ‘What do they want from a music magazine’. 50% said Reviews and interviews, the other half new band pictures. By knowing this information I can use most of the magazine pages with Exclusive interviews and combine that with new pictures of the artist to hit 2 birds with stone.
I was concerned about the next poll question being about, how the audience would like the photo cover photo view point to be because what they like might not fit in with the theme or the size of the Front cover. 50% said either mid shot or birds eye view, the other saying close up which I was quiet happy about, as I can use the mid shot and the Close up easily.
With the style of music I the general votes went for indie rave/rock pop which are similar in quiet a few ways so I could defiantly use this information concerning about the style, artisit and layout of the magazine.
The magazine title CRUNK! Got &75% of the vote so this was defiantly the name I was going to use. I think the reason people choose this title was because its easy to remember, its bold and it can be shown in a lot of different ways.

Instructions For Front Page

I started off with a plain brick wall which I stretch to fit the page. Then I used the sponge tool and burn tool to lighten and darken parts of the wall where the writing was going to go.

Then I used the website www.dafont.com and got my font for the magazines name, and then used the Magic wand to remove the white outline from the writing to revel the brick walling.
Then I used the magnetic lasso tool to cut out the photo of Jade then for the last parts I used the magic wand. After I went on dafont.com again and got the font and strip for the Dymotape article title, I stretched it and moved it around to look like it had been taped onto the cover.

I then used the photos and logo’s id taken picture’s of and placed them into the spaces where the writing would go. Then I put the barcode in the bottom left hand corner. The reason I done this was to make sure I had more room for more information and pictures to go onto the page.

I then used dafont.com again to get the fonts for Herion, remedy, La Roux and Calvin Harris.
The reason I didn’t use the Magic wand to cut out the white was because I wanted the names to stand out so the readers eye is caught by the names that they recognise.

I placed the yellow pug at the top of the title so that you can notice it a lot more than if it was hidden behind the main image like NME sometimes does.

Instructions For Content Page

I started off with cutting the photo out of jade and making the red banners for the contents page and sub-titles.
Again I used dafont.com for the contents title and I think it works will with the red background.

I then I got the line of ink splats form the internet and used the layers to put them under the red banners, by doing this is makes the contents page look at lot more interesting and professional. I then wrote in the page numbers and titles for the rest of the magazine and also the subheadings.

I them added the rest of the photos, some band names and also the page numbers next to the photos. By doing this you can find the page number for the article you want quicker by just finding the photo and then the page number is next to it.
I also added some splatters of ink which matches the line down the left hand side. I also added the magazine sponsors onto a yellow banner on the bottom of the page. By making the banner yellow it stands out.

I then added more ink splatters and rings to fill the blank spaces and also put in a quote under 2 of the photos which link together. The reason I done this was so the reader can get an quick idea of the question’s in the interview and also the story they might be reading.

Instructions Of Double Page Spread.

I took at brick wall for the double page spread to match the front cover. I stretch it then used the burn tool and sponge tool to make parts of the wall lighter and darker for the text and images.

I then cut out the picture of jade and cropped it so that you could only see half of her face. I wanted to do this because it fitted into the space next to the text.
I also again took the title fonts from dafont.com and used the dymotape to match the front cover again.

I wrote and added the text into the lighten box on the left hand side. I used the black lettering for the question/interviewer and then the pink for the answers/Lady Gaga. By doing this you can easily read and establish who is talking and what there saying?

I added other photos I had taken of the artist and also pictures of the other people who were involved in the interview. I had done this because it makes the interview more visual and also makes the page look more interesting and not just writing.

I then again went onto dafont.com and go the fonts for the quotes. I didn’t cut the lettering out or use the Magic wand because I wanted the quote to stand out from the brick background and I think I’ve done this well. I also match the quotation marks into pink so that the colour scheme would be quiet girly but also uni-sex by the fonts and also the dark backgrounds.

My Photos Before Editing!!

These are some of my selected photos that i am going to evaluate for my magazine. These photos have not been edited yet so they will not look exactly like that on my covers ect.

Smoking.

Picture1.
I really like this photo as Jade is staring into the camera and her eyes could tell a sort of story. Also the way she has the lighter light in the picture makes it alot more intresting to look at.
If i was going to use this for my Front cover i would crop half of her body out as its not very professional looking.

Picture2.
*For this photo i wanted jade to look quiet comfortable at the fact that she smokes and also show a rebel side to the picture for this i got her to look up me. I wouldnt use this for my front cover as there is not much space to put other put a title or other stories on the side.

Picture3.
*I really like this close up of jade as shows off her facail features and make-up. Though it doesnt show off another side to her. All you see is her seriouse side and also he ciggertte in her mouth doesnt look quiet right so i wont be using this for any part of my magazine.

Picture4.
*Again i done another close up but with jade looking somewhere eles and without the ciggrette in her mouth. I really dont like this photo as its not a nice angel on her face and also again doesnt show a fun/sexy which is what i wanted to see in the picture's for my magazine.

Duck Tape.

Picture1.
*I like the angel on jades face and her facial expressions but her body ill all wrong and also half cut off. For theses photos i wanted to see her whole body including her legs to see the whole inspiration and sexyness of just wearing duck tape and underwear.

By using duck tape this gives us a more Lady GaGa infucenced looked.

Picture2.
*Again i like the way jade's her head is looking down but her legs are cut off so i wont be using this for my magazine.

Picture3.
*I really like this photo becuase i have jades legs are in it. Also the way her arms and hands are placed on her hips reminds me of one of Lady GaGas photo shoots for More magazine so thats a good point. Also with the way she is looking away from the camera makes her look mysterious and sexy. I Will be using this photo in my contents page but cutting jade completly out of the back ground.

Animal Print.

Pictue1.
*This photo is quiet indie looking by the way jade has her feet turning inwards, also by her leaning over it makes us want to lean into her and take a better look at the photo and it may draw people into reading the artical about her. This again would be a good picture for my contents page or maybe even a little picture for my double page spread.

Picture2.

*Jades facial expression is really funky and fun and is a really good pose for my front cover. Also by having her bright headband and lepoard fur coat on, the coulours and print is very eye cacthing. Also by having the rock and roll hand sign draws attention to the audience of Tennagers and younge adults. This will be the photo for my front cover as i really like it.

Picture3.
*Becuase i liked the photo above so much i thort id try the same sort of thing but change a few fetures. I keept the rock and roll hand sign and the close up shoot. I told jade to stick her tounge out to look more indie rock. I dont like this as much as the other photo only becuase of jade sticking her tounge out.

Picture4.
*I tryed another close up shoot but i wanted jade to look sexy and powerful so i just asked her to look into the camera. If i edited this photo, cropped it closer to her face and made it brighter id use this photo for either contents page or double page spread.

Umbrella Shots.

Picture 1.
*I dont like this photo as some of the umbrella is cut out of the shot and also jades does not look comfotable so i wouldnt use this picture in my magazine.

Picture 2.
*Again i dont like this photo as jades face does not look good plus the umbrella is not all the the shoot. I was not pleased with my photos that came out from the umbrella shot but i feel that the other photos represnt Jade being Lady GaGa much more.

Example Of Lady GaGa Double Page Spreads.

This is an example of to double page spreads featuring Lady GaGa. This is from More magazine and even though its a womans fashion magazine i still had a look at the layout and desgin. The way they have her on the right hand page and the big font is excatly want i drew out in my desgins and i really like it.
The way her 'Quote' is in a bigger font gives the readers and insight on the interview and makes them want to read more.
Again like my desgins they have put other picturte of Lady GaGa from outside the More photoshot. By looking at this desgin and others it has given me alot of ideas for my own magazine.

Ideas For Front Cover.

This is my first rough sketch of my front cover. I like the way the name of the magazine will be bold and eye catching with the exclimation mark next to it, to make it that little bit stronger.
My main image is close up of Lady GaGa with her fingers and hand doing the 'Rocker' sign. Just by doing this sign it will appeal to the more indie/rock audience that i would like to read my magazine. Also her make-up will be very bright and eye catching so it draws attention to the magzine amongst all the other magazines that will be on the shelf.
The font of the main interview title will be bold with an exclimation mark next to it to match the name of the magazine. By having it at the bottom in large lettering it's like a sort of caption for the main image. Also by having the words 'Exclusive Interview' underneath means that the reader knows it's a real, new interview from Lady GaGa herself and in a way makes them want to read it more. Also on the front cover i put two other stories and pictures beside the main image. This also shows the reader the toher stories, interviews and reviews that will be in that weeks issue of the magazine.
I put a pug of the price on the top left hand conor so that it is visable amongst other magazines. By doing this the reader knows the cheap price of the magazine witout having to even pick it up.

For my second skecth i drew it alot more simple and less busy to see what it would look like, and i think it looks quiet boring and its not the look for my genre of music.
The main image is again a close up of Lady Gaga but just looking into the camera.
Instead of having the main articale headline in the middel or the bottom i decieded to see what it looks like down the side, and it doesnt look as nice as the other front cover above.
I drew the other headings and pictures on the bottomw right hand conor as thewy would be perfectly fitted into the gal of Lady GaGa's sholder and the Barcode. This is not my favirote front cover so im going to use the first front cover as it fits my Genre of music and is alot more eye cathing.
